Our approach to providing specific feedback has been evaluated for a period of three academic years in a course related to object‐oriented programming. The library allows for great flexibility and personalization of verifications to adjust them to each particular task, overcoming the limitations of most of the existing assessment tools. To that end, we developed the CAC++ library, which enables constructing tailored static analysis programs for C/C++ practices. In this paper, we present a method to provide automated and specific feedback to immediately inform students about their mistakes in programming courses. However, implementing a personalized analysis beyond the rules included in existing tools may be a complex task for the lecturer without a mechanism that guides the work. As such, it is a plausible option to assess whether students' solutions meet the requirements imposed on the assignments. Static analysis is a known technique that can partially simulate the process of manual code review performed by lecturers. Over the years, several approaches have been proposed to automate the assessment of students' programs. This situation, in turn, delays the access by students to feedback that can contribute significantly to their training as future professionals. The correction of exercises in programming courses is a laborious task that has traditionally been performed in a manual way. This in turn helps a reader in deciding which tool to choose and provides an insight into what are the assessment settings and approaches used in grading the coding assignment in any specific grading tool. This survey studies and evaluates the automated grading tools based on their evaluation format. This is crucial since the instructor has to design the grading format and therefore requires a learning curve. However other than knowing the functionality, it is important for an instructor to know how the assignments are graded and what is the format of the test cases. There are several surveys studying the tools and giving insights into how they function and what they support. Since there are varieties of tools available to cater to the diverse options of programming languages and concepts, it is overwhelming for any instructor to decide which one suits one's requirements. Such tools are developed to grade coding assignments quickly, accurately, and effortlessly. The prevalence of online platforms and studies has generated the demand for automated grading tools, and as a result, there are plenty in the market.
